One Month Across Egypt: Traveling in Search of Stories

People often ask me where I find the inspiration for my books.

The answer is simple: I travel.

Not as a tourist, but as a writer.

For almost a month, I crossed Egypt from one landscape to another, following old roads, forgotten stories, and conversations with people whose lives are deeply connected to this extraordinary country. Every place became another chapter in my notebook.

Our journey began in Cairo, a city that never truly sleeps. Between historic streets, hidden cafés, bookstores, and meetings with publishers and readers, I was reminded that every corner has a story waiting to be told.

From there, we drove west into the endless desert toward Siwa Oasis.

Siwa is unlike any place I have ever visited. Ancient ruins, salt lakes, palm groves, endless silence, and nights filled with stars create an atmosphere that feels almost timeless. Walking through abandoned villages and listening to local legends, I understood why myths survive for thousands of years. Places like this don't just inspire fantasy—they preserve it.

Leaving the oasis behind, we reached Marsa Matrouh, where the Mediterranean revealed another face of Egypt. Crystal-clear turquoise water, white beaches, and quiet evenings reminded me how diverse this country truly is. Egypt is so much more than pyramids and deserts.

Following the coastline, we continued through the North Coast. Luxury resorts stand beside untouched stretches of sea, creating a fascinating contrast between modern Egypt and nature. Watching sunsets over the Mediterranean, I found myself writing pages that had nothing to do with my original plans. Sometimes the best ideas arrive when you stop looking for them.

Our next destination was Alexandria.

The city carries the weight of history with surprising elegance. Walking along the Corniche, exploring old neighborhoods, and imagining the ancient Library of Alexandria reminded me that stories never really disappear. They simply wait for someone to rediscover them.

Eventually, we returned to Cairo, where the journey came full circle. Looking back over the thousands of kilometers we had traveled, I realized that this wasn't simply a holiday.

It was research.

Every conversation, every market, every desert road, every museum, every forgotten ruin, every cup of tea shared with strangers became part of a much larger collection of memories. Some will appear in my future novels exactly as I experienced them. Others will transform into fictional places, mysterious characters, and stories that blur the line between history and imagination.

As an author, I believe authenticity cannot be invented from behind a desk. You have to walk the streets. Feel the desert wind. Listen to local voices. Smell the spices in the markets. Watch the light change over ancient stones.

Only then do places become more than locations.

They become stories.

This journey has filled dozens of notebooks, hundreds of photographs, and countless ideas. Some of them may appear in the next Darkmoor novel. Others may take years before they find their place on a page.

But every adventure begins with a single step and sometimes, with a month spent discovering the soul of Egypt.
